Light Beings: PHOT 197 Senior Photography Projects Exhibition

This past week, my senior photography class shared our collective efforts from this semester in a senior photography exhibition at Gallery 8 at San Jose State University. Two pieces of mine, from a series in progress (working title "Playing"), were part of the exhibition. The series, in the simplest of terms, is a portrait series of people in masks. I'm considering ideas of gender, role playing, the function of stereotype, and dress up in this work. However, what I'm trying to do first and foremost, is to just have fun with my subjects who are brave and willing to put on my grotesque masks and humor me with a photoshoot. I plan on making more masks, from leather and papier-mâché. I like these materials for their simplicity, malleability, and capacity for transformation. They are very easy to work with, and they can turn into almost anything you will the to. More to come! In the meantime, the showcard from our exhibition and images of the work I had featured in the show.
